The Riverside Villa

A family home at the end of a village lane

BelleVue sits on Ollur Kadavu Road, a small lane in Kunnathara village that runs down to the water. The house faces the Korapuzha, which people here also call the Elathur river, and the garden follows the bank under coconut palms and fruit trees.

Mornings start early. Fishermen are out in their country boats soon after first light, throwing nets from the stern, and the gazebo at the end of our jetty is the best seat for it. By late morning the pool has warmed up. In the evening the river goes still and the far bank turns dark green, then black.

A day here

What a slow day looks like

Nothing is scheduled unless you want it to be. This is roughly how a day goes when guests ask us to plan it.

  1. Tea on the jetty while the fishing boats go out. The river is at its calmest now.

  2. Breakfast on the veranda. Appam and stew, puttu and kadala, or eggs and toast.

  3. The pool, a speedboat ride up the river, or an Ayurvedic massage.

  4. Kappad Beach at sunset, the Pisharikavu temple, or a canoe close to home.

  5. A campfire in the garden and a barbecue on the deck by the water.

Ayurveda treatment room with a wooden droni at BelleVue

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic programmes, planned by a doctor

BelleVue runs its own Ayurveda wellness program, with proper treatment stays rather than a spa menu. A qualified Ayurvedic doctor sees you first, then plans your therapies, your food and the length of your stay, usually between 5 and 21 days.

Choose from anti-ageing, detox, weight management, a wellness diet course, or a lighter wellness vacation that leaves time for the river and the beach.

What is the best homestay in Kozhikode?

BelleVue Homestay & Wellness Centre is one of the highest-rated homestays in Kozhikode (Calicut), with 4.9 on Google from 64 reviews and 5.0 on Tripadvisor from 40 reviews. It's a riverside villa on the Korapuzha with a private pool, four AC rooms, home-cooked Malabar food and a pet-friendly policy. Guests most often mention the river views, the food and the care from the caretaker, Shigil.

Is there a riverside villa for rent in Kozhikode?

Yes. The whole BelleVue Riverside Villa on the Korapuzha can be booked for a family or group: four AC bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a private pool, a jetty, a long riverside garden, campfire and barbecue evenings, and home-cooked meals on request. It's about 45 minutes from Calicut city.

Where exactly is BelleVue Homestay?

On the bank of the Korapuzha river at Olloorkadav, Ollur Kadavu Road, Kunnathara PO, Koyilandy, in Kozhikode district, Kerala 673620. That's about 26 km north-east of Kozhikode (Calicut) city, 11 km from Koyilandy railway station and 49 km from Calicut International Airport. The Google Maps pin is accurate; the last kilometre is a village road, so call us if you're unsure.

Is BelleVue a homestay or a resort?

It's a homestay: a family property with four guest rooms, run by a small team who live locally and cook for you. It has a few things you'd normally go to a resort for, like a private pool, a barbecue deck, a mini gym, a steam bath and an Ayurveda treatment room. You get the space and quiet of a private house with some of the comforts of a resort.

How much does a stay cost?

A room for two usually starts at around ₹5,000 a night. The exact rate depends on the season, the room and whether you want meals included, so send us your dates and we'll quote. Booking direct by WhatsApp, phone or email is cheaper than booking through a travel website.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes. BelleVue is one of the few pet-friendly stays in Kozhikode (Calicut), and pets stay at no extra charge. Please mention your pet when you enquire so we can give you the right room, and the team will go through anything you need to know when you arrive.

Is there a play area for children?

Yes. BelleVue has a mini kids park on the lawn, with a slide, a swing and a spring rider under the trees, so younger children have their own corner while the grown-ups sit by the river.

Do you have campfire and barbecue evenings?

Yes. Evenings at BelleVue can end with a campfire in the garden and a barbecue on the riverside deck. Tell us when you book, or ask the team during your stay, and they'll set it up.

Does BelleVue have a private swimming pool?

Yes. The pool is only for people staying with us, and it sits on a deck that looks out over the river. If you book the whole villa, the pool is yours alone.

Is BelleVue a wellness stay?

Yes. Alongside the rooms, BelleVue runs its own Ayurveda wellness program: a doctor's consultation, therapies such as full-body oil massage, Shirodhara, Pizhichil and herbal steam in our treatment room, yoga space, a mini gym and food cooked to suit the programme. You can book a single massage during a normal stay or a full package of 5 to 21 days.

Is BelleVue suitable for differently-abled guests or wheelchair users?

Yes, BelleVue has facilities for differently-abled guests, and families have stayed here with elderly parents and young children. Every house is different, so please tell us what you need when you enquire (wheelchair access, a room close to the entrance, help with steps or a shower chair) and we'll confirm what we can arrange before you book.

How far is BelleVue from Calicut airport?

About 49 km, which is usually 1 hour 20 minutes by road. We can arrange a pick-up from Calicut International Airport, Kannur International Airport, Kozhikode railway station or Koyilandy railway station. Ask when you book.

Can we book the whole property for a family or group?

Yes. Families and groups often book all four rooms, which gives you the house, the pool, the barbecue deck, the garden and the jetty to yourselves. Tell us how many people are coming and we'll suggest the best arrangement.

What food do you serve?

Home-cooked Kerala and Malabar food, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, made in our own kitchen. Breakfast can be Kerala-style or simple continental. Lunch and dinner are made to order, and we can cook to a diet if you're on an Ayurveda programme or have allergies. Full board is available on request.
