Kappad Beach 13 km
About 20 minutes away. A stone memorial marks where Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. Rocky outcrops at one end, a long sweep of sand at the other.
Thikkodi Drive-in Beach 20 km
A long, firm stretch of sand where you can drive along the shore. Go late afternoon and stay for the sunset.
Payyoli Beach 23 km
Quiet and wide, with fishing boats pulled up on the sand. Good for a long walk.
Temples, history and landmarks
Sree Pisharikavu Temple 11.5 km
One of the best-known temples in the Kozhikode area, at Kollam near Koyilandy. Worth timing your visit for the annual festival if you can.
Kollam Parappally Makham 11.5 km
The historic dargah of Thameemul Ansari, an important pilgrimage site for the region's Muslim community.
Kadalur Point Lighthouse, Thikkodi 16.5 km
Climb up for a wide view of the coast north of Koyilandy. Check opening hours before you go.

Koyilandy Mangrove Museum 6 km
A small, interesting stop for learning about the mangroves that line the rivers here.
Akalapuzha Lake 17 km
Backwater-style lake, good for a quiet boat ride or fishing.
Peruvannamuzhi Dam 31 km
A reservoir in forested hills with boating and bird watching. The Kuttiadi hydro project is close by.
Kakkayam 45 km
Hill-top views, forest walks and camping. Go early in the day.

Sargalaya Arts and Crafts Village 27 km
Watch artisans at work on traditional Kerala crafts at Iringal, and buy direct from them.
Day trips
Longer days out
Thusharagiri Waterfalls (62 km). A set of falls in the forest near Kodanchery. Best after the monsoon, from September to January.
Wayanad (95 km). Up the Thamarassery ghat road with its nine hairpin bends. Go for the tea estates, Pookode Lake and Chembra Peak. A long but very doable day trip.
Edakkal Caves (115 km). Prehistoric rock carvings in Wayanad, reached by a steep climb. Closed on Mondays, so plan around that.
Kozhikode city (26 km). The beach promenade, SM Street for halwa and shopping, the old Kuttichira mosques and an evening of Malabar biryani.

Can we go boating on the Korapuzha river from BelleVue?
Yes. BelleVue has its own jetty on the Korapuzha. Speedboat rides, canoeing and fishing can be arranged with local boatmen, and houseboat cruises on the river can be set up with local operators.
Is BelleVue near Kappad Beach?
Yes. Kappad Beach is about 14 km from BelleVue, roughly 25 minutes by road. Many guests go in the late afternoon for the sunset and come back for a campfire and dinner.
What can we do at BelleVue and nearby?
On site: swim, sit on the jetty, take a speedboat or canoe on the river, fish, use the gym or steam bath, let the children loose in the mini kids park, and finish the day with a campfire and barbecue. Nearby: Kappad Beach (14 km), Sree Pisharikavu Temple (11.5 km), the Koyilandy mangrove museum (6 km), Sargalaya craft village (27 km), Peruvannamuzhi dam (31 km) and Kakkayam (45 km). We can also set up a houseboat cruise on the Korapuzha.
Do you have campfire and barbecue evenings?
Yes. Evenings at BelleVue can end with a campfire in the garden and a barbecue on the riverside deck. Tell us when you book, or ask the team during your stay, and they'll set it up.
Is there a play area for children?
Yes. BelleVue has a mini kids park on the lawn, with a slide, a swing and a spring rider under the trees, so younger children have their own corner while the grown-ups sit by the river.
When is the best time to visit Kozhikode?
October to March is the easiest weather: dry, warm days and cooler mornings, good for the river and the beaches. April and May get hot and humid. June to September is the monsoon, which is green and dramatic, and it's also the traditional season for Ayurvedic treatment.
Is it worth visiting during the monsoon?
We think so. The river runs high, the garden is at its greenest and the rain on the roof is the best sleeping sound there is. Boat trips depend on the river on the day, so we'll plan those around the weather. Monsoon is also the classic season for Ayurveda.
