Ayurveda homestay
An Ayurveda homestay in Kerala, on the Korapuzha
A doctor's consultation first, therapies in our own treatment room, and food from a home kitchen cooked to the doctor's plan. Four rooms, so the house stays quiet.
Short answer: BelleVue is a family-run Ayurveda homestay in Kozhikode (Calicut) district, Kerala, on the Korapuzha river. A qualified Ayurvedic doctor sees you first and plans your therapies, your food and how long you stay, usually 5 to 21 days. Therapies such as full-body oil massage, Shirodhara, Pizhichil and herbal steam happen in our own treatment room, which has a traditional wooden droni. You can also book a single massage during an ordinary stay.
Why do Ayurveda at a homestay?
Ayurvedic treatment asks you to slow down: rest after therapy, eat what the doctor suggests, sleep early. That's easier in a quiet house than in a busy hotel.
We have four guest rooms, so there's no crowd at breakfast and no noise at night. Your meals come from our own kitchen, cooked to the doctor's instructions rather than picked from a menu. And if your partner or parents come along without wanting treatment, they have a pool, a river and a garden to enjoy while you're in the treatment room.
What we're not
We're a homestay with a treatment room and a qualified doctor, not an Ayurveda hospital. If you're managing a serious illness or need intensive treatment under close medical supervision, a hospital-based Ayurveda centre may suit you better, and we'll tell you so if we think that's the case.
Ayurveda works alongside modern medicine, not instead of it. Please tell us about any medical conditions, medicines, pregnancy or recent surgery when you enquire.
How it works
A day on a programme
Every plan is different, so treat this as a sketch. The doctor sets the details and adjusts them as you go.
- Morning
Yoga or gentle stretching in the yoga space, then a breakfast cooked to your plan.
- Therapy
Your treatment for the day in the treatment room or on the deck facing the river, often followed by the herbal steam.
- Rest
Lunch, then a slow afternoon: the garden, the jetty gazebo, a book from the library shelf.
- Evening
A light dinner and an early night. The doctor reviews how you're doing at regular intervals.
Therapies
The treatments, in plain words
- Full-body oil massage (Abhyanga). Warm herbal oil chosen for your constitution.
- Shirodhara. A steady stream of oil poured over the forehead. Many guests find it calming.
- Pizhichil. Warm medicated oil poured over the body while it is gently massaged, used to nourish the muscles and nerves.
- Herbal steam. Usually taken after a massage.
- Diet and yoga. Food planned around your prakriti, and yoga to match the programme.
Which of these you have, and how often, is the doctor's call after your consultation.

Ayurveda near Calicut, without going far
If you live in Kozhikode, you don't need to travel to the south of Kerala for an Ayurveda stay. BelleVue is 26 km from Calicut city, about 45 minutes by road, and 49 km from the airport for anyone flying in from the Gulf or elsewhere in India.
You can come for one massage and a night by the river, or for a full programme of one to three weeks. WiFi works across the house and garden if you need to stay in touch with work, though the doctor may have views on that.
When to come
The monsoon, June to September, is the traditional season for Ayurveda in Kerala, and the month of Karkidakam (mid-July to mid-August) is when many Malayali families plan their treatment. Our guide to Karkidakam and monsoon Ayurveda explains why. October to March has the easiest weather if you'd rather combine treatment with beach days.

FAQ
Ayurveda homestay questions
Straight answers to what people ask us on WhatsApp. Anything else, just message us.
What is an Ayurveda homestay?
It is a small, family-run stay where you can have Ayurvedic treatment without checking into a hospital or a large resort. At BelleVue that means a consultation with a qualified Ayurvedic doctor, therapies in our own treatment room, meals cooked to the doctor's plan, and a quiet house with only four guest rooms.
Is there an Ayurveda homestay near Calicut?
Yes. BelleVue Homestay & Wellness Centre is at Koyilandy in Kozhikode district, about 26 km from Calicut city. It runs its own Ayurveda wellness program with anti-ageing, detox, weight loss, wellness diet and wellness vacation programmes, and single massages during a normal stay.
Can my family stay with me while I have treatment?
Yes. Family members who are not on a programme can stay in the same room or another room and use the pool, the garden, the jetty and the boat trips while you are in treatment. The kitchen cooks for both, to the diet each person needs.
Do I have to do a full programme, or can I book one massage?
You can book a single Ayurvedic massage during an ordinary stay. Full programmes usually run 5 to 21 days and start with a consultation with the doctor.
When is the best time for Ayurveda in Kerala?
The monsoon, June to September, is the traditional season, and many Kerala families plan treatment in the month of Karkidakam, from mid-July to mid-August. Treatment works at other times of year too. October to March has the easiest weather.
Is BelleVue an Ayurveda hospital?
No. It is a homestay with a treatment room and a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. Keep taking any medicines your own doctor has prescribed, and tell us about any conditions, pregnancy or recent surgery before you come.
